Jimmy Marble's book Dream Baby Dream has been inspiring us big time lately. We thought you guys might dig it too.
What we especially love about this book is that it includes Marble's very first photo shoot! Not sure about you, but we only wish we had been making such compelling work the first time we picked up a camera 🤯.
The book was published in 2019, which means all of the work in here was created in the 2010s. This was an era when photographers were going all in on color blocking, and Marble was certainly part of that movement.
Jimmy is an advertising photographer, and it's fun to draw the line between this book and his client work. If you head on over to jimmymarble.com you'll see examples of that sort of work, including this campaign for Nike AirMax.
Back in the book though. We're even bigger fans of this more pure version of his vision. There's certainly something to be said for creating work for without the constraints of a client or art/creative director.
We also love the low-fi approach to this work. In an era of pixel-peeping and technical digital perfection, sometimes leaning into the imperfect can really be a pleasure.
